Lets Get Intellectual

I think I bit off a bit more than I can chew with Winter’s Tale, especially in tandem with The Monument’s Men. While we all know it’s taking me forever to get through TMM, it’s not because it’s not interesting, because it is! It’s because at the end of a day at work, I don’t really want to think about things anymore, I want to read something entertaining, that takes me away from the daily grind and sucks me into a new world with exciting twists and turns. So, I read a chapter or two of TMM daily, and am slowly progressing, I have made it to the German boarder, art will be recovered soon! Anyway, I’m trying to broaden my horizons beyond YA, I have gathered a few other books to read as well. One being, Winter’s Tale.

I should have done more research on it before I bought it. I saw the movie trailer, which looked interesting. I haven’t been able to see it yet because it didn’t come out here, and I saw it on one of those “books to read before you see the movie” lists and thought “ya, I should do that!” well, I neglected to read any reviews of the book, and I am paying for that now. I am about 50 pages in, and nothing seems to have happened. I feel like the main story is nowhere near its start, and I’m not used to that. Reading reviews from GoodReads, I got the idea that this book is more of the authors enjoyment in language in general. I can understand that, and I can enjoy those kinds of books (I think the Shatter Me series is a great example of use of language, even if it is YA!) but I’m just not interested yet. From the reviews I read you either love it or hate it, and I fear I am going to be in the latter group. I am going to push ahead and try not to give up on it, but I’m just not sure if it’s going to happen. I hate quitting on books, but I hate hating books even more. Many people also noted how confused they were with the story, and its inconclusive ending, I can’t stand it when the an ending dosen’t provide closure! So basically, I’m really worried this book is not going to get finished or be enjoyable. Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll either have gotten into it and be loving it, or it will be put back on the shelf possible to be picked back up at a later date.

I have had an inkling to reread the Matched series . . .
